Word Play 2 – Early Intervention Reading Program – Day 1

$300Word Play is a program for students in Kindergarten or Grade 1 who may be at risk for reading problems. Using play based activities, Word Play helps students build critical foundational reading skills.
Who should attend?
Grade 1 or 2 students for whom any of the following apply:
• Are at risk for reading problems
• Are delayed in recognizing letters and the sounds they make
• Have had speech language delays or speech therapy as preschoolers
• Are unable to recognize or generate rhymes
• Parents are concerned they are delayed in gaining early reading skills
Word Play 1 or 2? Which is best for my child?
Children who struggle with learning the alphabet and the sounds it makes should enroll in Word Play 1. Children who know their letters and sounds and can separate words into syllables should be enrolled in Word Play 2. If a parent is unsure about the skill level of their child, the Centre for Literacy can conduct a simple screening — The Reading Readiness Screening Tool (RRST) — as part of the registration fee. The results can help determine if they should be in Word Play 1 or 2.
Times and Days
Word Play 1 will be held daily, Tuesday to Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 am, August 7th to 10th, and then daily, Monday to Thursday, August 13th to 16th.
Word Play 2 will be held daily, Tuesday to Thursday from 10:45-11:45 am, August 7th to 10th, and then daily, Monday to Thursday, August 13th to 16th.
The cost for the 8 sessions is $300. A non-refundable $50 deposit is required that will be applied against the program fee.
