This 2 part session is for teachers, educational assistants or home schooling parents interested in learning practical strategies to help students simultaneously improve reading comprehension and be more enthusiastic about writing. This session provides practical strategies to learn more about how metacognition can enhance reading comprehension and writing. Metacognition provides a structured process for “thinking about thinking.” The National Reading Panel identifies metacognitive strategies as a critical best practice to enhance reading comprehension. Metacognitive strategies are also very powerful tools to support writing. This professional development session will be held over two consecutive Wednesdays (May 9th and 16th) from 7pm to 9pm. The PD will provide participants with an overview on how to use the metacognitive program, Visualizing and Verbalizing, to enhance reading comprehension and writing in classroom and one on one teaching environments.
The cost is $75 for both sessions.
Registration can be taken by phone at 780-434-3698.
