Foundations in Reading Remediation: Part 1
October 3 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$75
The focus of this session will be on the use of evidence based multi–sensory strategies (hearing, seeing, and feeling) to build phonological and phonemic awareness to support a student to gain understanding of sound-symbol connections (the alphabetic principle). Secure understanding of phonological processes is a critical prerequisite for reading competency. Difficulty with phonological processes is the most common reason students struggle with literacy. Support will be provided in how to plan and deliver initial remediation strategies.
This is a core class for Centre for Literacy Teachers. This course will be held over two consecutive Wednesdays. Part 1 of this session will be held on September 26th from 7 to 9pm. Part 2 will be held on October 3rd, also from 7 to 9 pm. Teachers, educational assistants and other professionals in the community are invited to attend. Registration is $75 and can be taken over the phone at 780-434-3698.
