Summer Workshop: Strategies For Teaching Writing

This workshop is designed for teachers and others practitioners who support students with writing. Its goals are to provide participants with practical strategies for use in either classroom or one-to-one teaching environments.

This session will address topics such as:

  • Engendering enthusiasm about writing
  • Engaging the most reluctant writer
  • Enabling students to write with confidence, finding their own writing style and voice

Participants will be provided with comprehensive resources including material that can be used in a classroom or other teaching environments.

Instructors Ashley McPherson & Marshall Thiessen

This workshop will be led by Ashley McPherson and Marshall Thiessen.  Ashley is completing a Master’s Degree in Literacy Studies and has been project lead in the development of the Centre’s structured writing program, Tell me!/Raconte-moi!, designed for elementary students. Marshall has returned to the field of education after having worked for the Government of Alberta, in several senior policy roles. He teaches English and Literacy at the high school level.
